Maryam is open-minded, easy-going, kind, warm, and caring. Her sincere nature and empathetic demeanour is one that makes you feel safe, giving you the strength to let your walls down so you can share your story and begin taking steps towards healing. Her counselling style is based on a humanistic approach with the core principles of empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard provided in a safe, supportive and confidential environment. She encourages and validates your feelings in that your personal experience and emotions can be felt deeply and without restriction. She believes that responsible language can have a substantial impact on how her clients process their feelings and transition into a more peaceful inner dialogue.
She emphasizes an approach that searches for the unmet needs of her clients in an open and non-judgemental manner. Maryam’s goal is to be a guiding light for her clients, safely supporting them and their families through the challenges, emotional turbulence and profound sadness that loss can bring. Her philosophy is having respect for each other—and every human being.
Her humanistic approach serves as the foundation of her style and plants the seeds for the blossoming of change. With small shifts in thoughts, actions and perspectives, we not only facilitate change in our own lives but also create ripples of change that extend to the lives of those around us.

Loss and grief come in many forms; relationship loss, long-term disability, immigration, retirement, job loss or the loss of life. Skilled in bringing people the resources crucial for their individual needs and grief process, Maryam bases her counselling on clients’ individual and immediate needs, as well as those not initially obvious to the client, but crucial to their optimal experience.
Maryam has always been passionate about helping people and holding space for them as they process their emotions. Listening without judgement, she validates her clients’ feelings and accepts their truth while offering them the compassion and gentle guidance their heart requires to move forward.

Having experienced numerous losses and extensive periods of grief in different cultural settings, she has learned firsthand the value that the community holds in helping foster the resilience needed to get through life’s toughest challenges. Her unique life experience and personal style help to create a powerful connection with her clients in these times of loss. She brings this experience to the client to enable them to achieve milestones, overcome obstacles, and allow them to slow down and give them choices at a time when they feel a loss of control.
