Therapeutic Counseling Modalities
I work with a number of modalities that set her clients on a path of inner peace and overall well-being.
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioural therapy works on the premise that our thoughts and perceptions affect our actions and behaviour, thus, affecting our lives. CBT works by eliminating harmful thought patterns which may create an unrealistic or distorted depiction of reality, helping people employ effective strategies to overcome these thoughts in a healthy and transformative way.
I will help my clients discover their distorted thoughts and the core beliefs that are leading to emotional distress and destructive behavioural patterns. The purpose of CBT in my work is to help my client recognize these thoughts and reframe them, consequently changing their feelings and actions.
Narrative Therapy
We all have stories—stories that become our identities and influence us positively and negatively. They could change the way we see ourselves and distort the way we view and perceive the world around us. In narrative therapy, significant life events, positive or negative, are viewed as stories. Narrative therapy helps detach the clients from the negative story they have attached to their identity and helps them see the power they hold in reshaping their perception of themselves and their lives.
I help my clients recognize their ability to write new stories and acknowledge their talents, gifts and strength. I will gently guide them into moving away from the narratives that are negatively affecting them to begin exploring new, untold stories of courage, passion, dreams and values.
Somatic Counselling
Somatic therapy is an alternative form of body-centred therapy that works on the principle that unconscious, unresolved feelings are stored in our body and create an armour which can be released through sound and movement. This sound and movement therapy moves our bodies into relaxation, helping let go of emotions, feelings, past traumas and pent-up tensions that negatively affect our physical and emotional health daily.
During sessions with my clients, I will help them move into a state of body-awareness where they will learn to recognize where built-up energies lie and how to release them.
Art Therapy
There are times when we hit the wall with our emotions, speechless when it’s time to talk, not knowing how to grieve anymore, feeling numb or hit a roadblock with talk therapy. Art Therapy is an effective, creative process of exploring and expressing our emotions through the usage of multi-media art forms such as painting, collaging, writing, dancing, authentic movement, and guided meditation: giving our loss and our grieving sound, colour, texture, and flow of movement. No art experience is required; just your curiosity to try something different.
